About the project
The overall objective of the Nordic Biobank Network (NBN) is to enhance biobanking competence and operations within RIs and foster high-quality research and innovation across the Nordic region.
NBN will act as a Nordic hub linking population based, clinical and disease specific biobanks with large scale sample and data repositories.
Activities
Network Management (WP1)
Coordinate governance, collaboration, and communication across participating countries and work packages.

Nordic Fingenious® Service Pilot (WP2)
Map and compare current biobank and biodata access procedures across Nordic countries, and explore expansion of the Fingenious gateway platform into a Nordic-wide access service.

Operational Biobanking (WP3)
Strengthen operational biobanking across the Nordics by fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and enhancing infrastructure quality within a network of new and experienced biobankers.

Outreach and dissemination – Nordic Biobank Conference 2026 and 2028 (WP4)
Organize the Nordic Conference on Biobanks and Precision Health in 2026 and ensure continuity towards the conference planned for 2028.

Ethical, legal and societal implications – ELSI (WP5)
Organize annual ELSI workshops to address key topics, share knowledge, provide training, develop resources, and coordinate efforts with European biobank infrastructures.

Promote and support ongoing biobank-based and registry-linked research, and identify and develop new collaborative opportunities to expand research.
